DATE

Fall 2021

LOCATION

Lakeshore Drive, Chicago, IL

PROJECT TYPE

Institutional (Higher Edu.)

GOAL

This project designs a satellite campus and event space for the Savannah College of Arts & Design with the hope of creating a cultural hub in Chicago. Architecturally, the project is looking towards future forms and net-zero towers in the skylines of big cities.

This project tasked students with designing a non-orthogonal skyscraper at a site located on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago.

My chosen program is an extension of the Savannah College of Arts and Design (SCAD) Fashion Program, designing two towers, one residential and the other for education and events. The goal of this project is to emphasize Chicago’s place as a cultural center and bring new business opportunities to the city.

The residential tower has a twist of 120° and the education and event tower, 40°. This project addresses structural and sustainable design at a large scale and develops skills including V-Ray rendering and schematic drawing. The towers' super structure is simple, consisting of a central concrete core and large twisting columns at the perimeter of each tower. The exterior curtain wall provides the rest of the structural support and cross bracing.
